Security holograms

Why does a security hologram remain one of the most reliable means of protection against counterfeiting?

The fact is that a security hologram contains a microstructure that is fundamentally impossible to copy using ANY modern printing methods.

To briefly describe the process of creating a hologram, it looks something like this:

First, an "original" or "master" is created (which is extremely difficult, expensive, and absolutely impossible to make in makeshift conditions). Then, using specialized replication machines, an unlimited number of copies are produced from this "master" in a fairly short time.

The replication process itself is relatively low-cost, which has contributed to the widespread adoption of holographic protection.

Why is counterfeit protection necessary?

Documentation Protection. Various types of permits and certifying documents (certificates, licenses, warranty cards). It’s simple: while it’s possible to forge a document form, finding or replicating the hologram for it is extremely difficult.

Product Protection. There are at least two factors that drive manufacturers to seek serious anti-counterfeit methods and specifically choose holograms.

The first factor is direct: the actual fight against counterfeit versions of original products.

If your product has stable market demand, sooner or later, someone will try to fake it. This is a rule with almost no exceptions! There are many companies looking to profit from your advertising budget for free. In this case, a hologram (being the most complex element of the packaging) can play a decisive role, even leading to the complete abandonment of counterfeiting attempts.

The second factor is indirect: it is more subtle but very important.

By copying the packaging to gain excess profit, the fraudster cares nothing about the quality of the contents, thereby causing irreparable damage to the brand itself. Consumers, of course, realize this.
That is why any anti-counterfeit measures carry a positive "message" to the buyer: "Look! We protected the product so you don't buy a 'knock-off' and won't be disappointed in our brand!"
The logical chain "Protection equals Quality" works in most cases, especially when two similar products are side by side on a store shelf.

We are essentially saying that holograms help boost sales and strengthen brand image. And it really is true!

The effectiveness, of course, depends on many factors. There are market segments where this works exceptionally well (pharmaceuticals, for example). In other industries, it might be less pronounced. Balancing potential sales growth against the cost of applying a security hologram is no easy task. Naturally, no one but the manufacturer can solve this equation.
We are simply conveying the idea that a hologram on the packaging is beneficial in any case; it only remains to understand how quickly this benefit will pay off in your specific situation.

Summary:

Security holograms are holographic elements whose presence guarantees the authenticity of a product or document. The protection is provided by two key factors:

First: It is impossible to manufacture a hologram in makeshift conditions.

Second: It is impossible to use existing printing equipment to produce or imitate holograms.

Of course, we do not claim that it is absolutely impossible to forge a hologram. However, we are confident that today, security holograms are one of the most effective tools for counterfeit protection.
